Our Kaftan

The kaftan has a long tradition in Berber culture and symbolizes not only only elegance but also cultural identity .

Originally worn by Amazigh women, it was handcrafted from natural fabrics and decorated with unique patterns that told stories and symbols of the community. The kaftan was an expression of femininity , pride and artisanal artistry that was passed down from generation to generation. Today, it combines traditional values with contemporary designs and remains a timeless symbol of Berber culture.

  • How it is spun

The fabrics for traditional Berber kaftans are often spun from locally available, natural materials such as wool or cotton. The women of the community use hand-operated spinning wheels to process the fibers, with each step - from dyeing to weaving - being carried out by hand. These techniques reflect centuries-old knowledge and a close connection to nature.

  • How to care for it

To preserve the longevity of a handmade kaftan, it should be cared for gently. It is recommended to hand wash it with a mild detergent in cold water and then air dry to preserve the fibers. Direct sunlight and chemical cleaning products should be avoided to preserve the colors and structure of the fabric.
